when i was little, june 30th was fifty times as long as all other days in the year

once you turn 36, you might as well just say you are 40, because in only one year, you will be 37 – and that might as well *be* 40.
i still consider myself young, but in just four years, i will make the great Crossing into that flatly lit plateau called middle age. miles of terrain that all looks the same – trees, signs, houses whipping by.
it passes so fast once it really starts going. when i was little, june 30th was easily fifty times as long as all other days in the year. but today, it came and, just like that, it went.
